7 Simple Tips to Improve A Room With Lighting

7 Simple Tips to Improve A Room With Lighting

Think of lighting as room jewelry that adds personality and sparkle. For example, placing lamps or treasured objects in front of a mirror add depth and another dimension to your design.

The following are ways to bring a room to life with a little bit of light. The possibilities are endless!

1. Light in layers

Using the basic principles of Light Layering will ensure a well-lit house

2. Use pendants

Pendants can be used as task lighting over a reading chair or kitchen island. Positioned over your shoulder, correct light will be cast upon the reading material.

3. Dim it down

Use a dimmer to soften the mood for entertaining and turn it up higher for homework, hobbies, etc. when needed.

4. Light it up

Most of us want to see clearly in our bathroom mirrors so we can apply makeup, shave or simply brush our teeth.

To avoid shadows and to fully surround your face with flattering light, install a fixture at least 24” wide over the mirror, plus two wall sconces or pendants (on each side of the mirror) at least 28” apart and 60” from the floor.

5. Add color and texture

The right light can help bring life by adding color and texture.

Consider using them to bring in a fun accent to a mostly monochromatic room.

6. Get intimate

A lamp on a buffet adds another option for lighting more intimate dinners, or softening the mood after dinner is over.

7. Go linear

With longer dining room tables, consider a linear chandelier...

or multiple pendants along the length of the table for a unique approach.
